Important to know about Ghana

Women in Ghana

Although there are many strong women in Ghana, the role of women in Ghana is perceived very differently from region to region and social class. Increasingly, there are female ministers and academics. However, especially in socially deprived areas, women are still often dependent on their husbands and families, including financially. In addition, education is very expensive in Ghana. The apprenticeship money is often invested in the sons of the family.
However, the craft of tailoring is traditionally in the hands of women in Ghana. It also offers women without a school-leaving certificate the opportunity to stand on their own two feet. Financial independence not only means more money for the families, but is also a step towards equality. Women's survival no longer depends on the care of their fathers and husbands. In this respect, ƐTↃ support means preventing domestic violence, which some of our seamstresses have experienced. Those who have the choice have the opportunity to change their fate for the better.

The seamstresses of ƐT- African Home

Florence is the head of production at ƐTↃ. She is a seamstress in Ghana's capital Accra. She has her sewing studio in a garage, where four young women sew under her guidance.
She has her sewing studio in a garage, where four young women sew under her guidance. Her workshop is always a hive of activity. Not least because of her seamstresses' children, who take them to work with them when no one else can look after them. Just popping in to see Florence never works. First of all, the news of the day has to be exchanged. We work with her to come up with new ideas for ƐTↃ and constantly improve the products. Ultimately, it was Florence who insisted on the foundation of ƐTↃ.
Florence is a role model for her employees, both as a craftswoman and as a person. She gives her wives independence from the constraints of a material marriage. She knows best how important work is for women. She herself has been divorced twice. Both times her husbands began to abuse her. Thanks to tailoring, she was able to escape domestic violence.
ƐTↃ's commitment does not stop with the tailors. We support weavers, fabric sellers, craftspeople who train women and many, many more.
