Our Projects

What we do to empower women

ƐTↃ - connecting cultures, empowering women is active as an charity. We are currently registering as an NGO to support more women to reach financial independency.

Training for seamstresses

We enable seamstresses to access the international market by training them in one - to -one coachings. We are looking into the personal strength of the women. We develop personal workshop to build their capacities. One of the main areas of coaching are language, quality control and scheduling of the production.
We also engage in extracurricular activities to broaden the perception and foster creativity.
Furthermore, we encourage the collaborating workshops to engage apprentices and to grow to hire more women. We want them to find new (international) costumers so they can continue their path without us.
Nontheless, we wish that also the seamstresses with the biggest success stories remain connected with us - as teachers, mentors and alumnis.
But in the end, we wish to grow close as big ƐTↃ - family. Connected with all our members - sometimes closer, sometimes accept their independence - but always knowing we can rely on each other if the struggles of life hit them hard.

Weaving school

In collaboration with our partner of WOVEN - Women's virtue network, we are getting ready to found and fund a weaving school in Ghana's North:
Interestingly, the weaving of the FUGU is mainly done by women in the Northern part of Ghana. It is a beautiful sight to behold in and around Tamale where these women go about their weaving with such poise and joy!
One can easily tell that it gives them a sense of responsibility and existence.
However, as you behold the beauty of art at these weaving centres, one would find among few older women, mostly teenagers and children (mostly girls) attempting to learn the trade. Girls as young as 7 years of age are offered by their guardians as apprentices for this trade.

While informal eduction has value, formal eduction is crucial for these young women and teenagers to gain economic advantage. Many of them are already mothers themselves and have small chances to enter the regular education system again.
We believe every child deserves basic formal eduction. Receiving an official certificate will enhance their economic value.
We find it important to set up a combined school + weaving center that will:

1. Teach them to weave.

2. How to manage and relate with clients in a professional manner.

3. Offer them basic education by qualified basic school teachers in the following fields:

READING

WRITING

MATHS

CREATIVE ARTS

These literacy classes and weaving lessons will be free for these  young girls. In the event where some of these young girls may have children as teenage mothers, these children will also benefit from the literacy class. This will afford the mothers good concentration time during training sessions.
  • among us women

A collaborative film about birth, empowerment and female companionship in a changing society.

  • Synopsis

Despite all medical advice, young Huluager wants to give birth at home. Between tradition and modernity, patriarchal structures and the complex power of female companionship, the women and midwives in the village of Megendi wrestle with their relationship to their bodies, to each other, and to all those who want to decide for them.

  • Involvement of ƐTↃ

As pregnancy, motherhood and self-determination matters to our women as well, we organised several screenings with the film. Our founder Florence lent her voice to one of the main character for the voice over version in Ewe.
